The Museum of Doomed Soldiers and Political Prisoners of the People’s Republic in Warsaw at ul. Rakowiecka will be exhibiting the painting of St. Therese of the Child Jesus by Fr. Władysław Gurgacz, donated by the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. Father Gurgacz during WWII stayed in the House of the Congregation in Walendów and in gratitude he provided the sisters with this image of St. Therese he painted. After the War he was a chaplain of the “doomed”, and a participant of the anti-Communist underground. In 1949 he was arrested and after a show trial before the military district court in Krakow he was sentenced to death by firing squad. The painting adorned the hall at the Walendów convent for several years, and now you can see it at the Museum of Doomed Soldiers.
